I loved the hot pot eating experience here. The burners are small and everyone has their own hot pot station with broth. The dipping soy sauce can be pre made or made yourself and everyone orders meats to share.
I’ve certainly had better flavors though. I should have ordered the spicy and creamy pork combination to try both but I was recommended strongly to try just the creamy pork as the spicy is not good.
But I missed the spice throughout this entire meal.
The broth was slightly weak, just wish it had more umami and it absorbed the broth flavor better.
I think this was a very expensive meal, but it was satisfying.
Shopping around Soho on a still warm sunny afternoon, we are met with a bit chilly weather late afternoon. What’s better than hot pot when it’s chilly? At Dolar Shop, you can choose up to two of your favorite flavors for your personal hot pot. The restaurant is clean and tidy with a very very organized sauce bar. After being seated by their friendly and attentive staffs, we ordered our food and approached their sauce bar with their in-house dried shrimp paste. It’s so good that it was put on literally everything from meat to veggies to grapes to durian pancakes. While waiting for the hot pot to boil, we enjoyed the freshly made durian pancakes. All the beef and veggies are super fresh which compliments their delicious soup base. Staffs come refill the soup as soon as it boils down without mentioning. After finishing a delicious meal, we were offered ice cream to cool us off from the yummy spicy hot pot.
You get your own bowl for hot pot here so it’s quite hygienic. There’s a decent selection of ingredients but you can also get set meals at a more affordable price. Lots of free cold dishes and dessert. Attentive staff and comfy booths.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - The Dolar Shop Hot Pot Manhattan
Hot pot restaurants have become so ubiquitous that it's rare for one to truly stand out, but The Dolar Shop in NYC has genuinely left an indelible mark on me. Located in a prime spot, this upscale hot pot establishment seamlessly combines a sophisticated ambiance with a lively, inviting vibe.
The spacious and impeccably clean interior immediately sets the tone for an unparalleled dining experience. But what truly sets The Dolar Shop apart is the sheer quality and flavor of its offerings. Every bite is a testament to their commitment to premium ingredients and masterful preparation. The portions are not only generous but also priced astoundingly well, given the outstanding quality.
I've frequented many hot pot and shabu shabu restaurants, but this is the only one I've felt compelled to revisit. If you're seeking a transcendent hot pot experience in NYC, The Dolar Shop should undoubtedly be at the top of your list.
Nice place in Manhattan to get hotpot! I’ve had better broth at other places, but I like the contemporary and clean style of Dolar Shop. Plus the free ice cream cones at the end!
I wanted to rate 2 or 3 stars but I really want the employer to pay attention to their problems.
1⃣️There are so many little flies here. In the restroom, and during the dinner. The little flies always stay on our food. It’s so annoying and not clean.
2⃣️When I choose to pay by credit card, they charged cc processing fee to customers, which shouldn’t be in charged by the customers. ( Picture is the proof) According to GENERAL BUSINESS LAW
§518: NY LAW RELATED TO CREDIT AND DEBIT CARD SURCHARGES. Businesses are not allowed to advertise a price and add a surcharge at the point of sale when a consumer elects to pay with a credit card. I reported to the manager, and the manager gave me these reasons:
• The surrounding restaurants do the same
• They offered different payments to customers, which is by cash( However, customers has the right to choose their own payment approach, I don’t take this excuse)
• They have processed in this way for long time.
I didn’t satisfied with these explanation. So I decided to leave this 1 star rate.
I won’t suggest people to come. Not for the food nor the service here.
Good quality meat and vegetables. The broth is good too and they refill it for you. There is a sauce bar and there is also free salted peanuts and fruits. At the end of the meal, they give you soft-served ice cream. …
I’ll say it’s the awesome place for one-person hot pot! Clean and neat, everyone gets to have their own preferred soup as the base. …
